Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
